Immunobiology of host-parasite and host-tumor interactions/camel antibody technology

The research focuses mainly on the study of cellular and molecular aspects of the immune response and the development of immunological therapies against important diseases including infectious diseases, asthma and cancer. Multiple subgroups join their efforts:

  • The "Macrophage" group: encompassing the pioneers aiming at the molecular characterization and investigation of immuno-regulatory functions of classical and alternative activated macrophages in Trypanosoma infections and cancer.
  • The "(Immuno-) parasitology" group investigates the African Trypanosome-associated immuno-pathology (leading e.g. to sleeping disease) and the mechanisms involved in the control of parasitemia, with an ultimate goal to develop novel strategies to treat this devastating disease.
  • The "Camel Antibody" group are world authorities for the study of ontogeny, structure-function relationship of -, and diagnostic/therapeutic applications (e.g. in Trypanosoma infections and cancer) with these unique antibodies.
